Variety has reported that Idris Elba will be replacing Will Smith and taking on the role of incarcerated assassin known as “Deadshot” in “Suicide Squad 2.”

The film is set to start filming in September and release date is on August 6, 2021.

Just a week ago reports surfaced that Smith’s scheduling conflicts will make it impossible for him to act in the upcoming DC Comics movie and the studio was hard pressed to find another actor to play the role.

Warner Bros’ Studios has their sights on Elba. James Gun will be writing and directing the sequel.

Smith is currently shooting the recently-announced Bad Boys for Life action-comedy set to be released in January 2020. He will also be appearing on Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin helmed by Guy Ritchie and will be playing the role of Richard Williams, father of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams in new movie: “Report.”

The original movie which starred Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne and Viola Davis among others, was a massive box office hit grossing $746.8 million worldwide.

There are currently no reports on who will be joining Elba on set, but it is believed that Robbie will be returning to her role as Harley Quinn.

This will be an interesting time for Elba who is continuing his detective role in BBC’s “Luther” and will also be playing the villain in “The Fast & Furious” spinoff Hobbs & Shaw which also stars Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson.

He’s also starring in the newly released British comedy Netflix series “Turn Up Charlie” and plays the role of a washed-up DJ who becomes a nanny to his best friend’s problem-child, Gabby.

The series was created and produced by Elba and Gary Reich.
