When I was younger, I used to read stories about young people doing great things, impacting lives and changing their world. I thought they were better than me – how could they be so young and still bring about changes greater than them?
As time went by, I got involved with people who were ready to take on anything and I began to try new things. I found out that I was relatively good at a lot more things than I had imagined.
I realised those youngsters were doing great because they had taken steps to try new things, had acquired more experience, built their confidence, grown their networks and were exposed to more opportunities to grow.
So I dared myself not to stop but continue to take on challenges and seek opportunities for growth. I continued exploring new things, made new connections, learnt new things and grew my confidence.
I am not the person I used to be! The experiences I have gathered have broaden my horizons and continued to propel to do more. My faith has also played a great role in my life.
Can you relate to my younger self?
Are you thinking that others are better than you? That you can never achieve what your colleagues are doing? Or that you lack the skills and abilities to try new things or you aren’t bold enough to follow your passion?
Today, I’m assuring you that you’ve got all it takes to create a new brand of you. You too can seek opportunities for growth, take on challenges that push out of your comfort zone but build you into a better person.
To do this, you need to make up your mind first, believe in yourself and then, take the steps to explore opportunities that are abound around the world.
You should also create time to volunteer for causes you are passionate about. Volunteering broadens your horizons. Also, there is more to life than money and paid opportunities. As a volunteer, the happiness you feel through impacting lives is immeasurable.
Know that through your experiences, successes or failures, you’ll learn key lessons about life, uncover new insights about yourself and you’ll become a better version of yourself.
And if ever your journey to the new ‘you’ seems slow, remember, it’s still progress and never a failure.
Thinking about your age🤔? You’re not too old to create a brand new ‘you’!
